History of Ardenwood Historic Farm

Ardenwood Historic Farm traces back to the 1850’s. It was the home of George Washington Patterson when, in 1849, he came to California to try his luck in the gold rush. Instead, he stumbled upon a fortune worth more than gold. He established the mansion in 1857 on approximately 300 acres of land, and kept cattle grew crops as well. George’s family owned the farm until it was acquired by the city of Fremont in 1978.

It was originally a simple abode meant for George and his family, but it underwent a complete renovation in 1889 after a Queen Anne addition was added to it. George and Clara lived in it with their sons and when they grew up, one of their sons, Henry, lived in it with his wife and daughters.
